Curious About Dogma

Curious About Dogma

  • two types of motivation: curiosity and fear (fear is a combination of fear and curiosity: like sexual curiosity)
  • teaching opinions (bible telling what you should do) vs,. teaching facts (school telling you the facts as is)
    • Reference: post on teaching distinguishing facts vs opinion characteristics
    • asking yourself: what is the point in having an opinion
    • how do opinions develop? only whenever you don't have the objectively specific facts as opposed to vague facts about state of mind and confusion
  • measuring level of pressure based on certain objectively observable charsteristics
    • For example, you know that being pressured by a car salesmen is different than being pressured by a robber. There is a logic behind both,
  • True curiosity is use what you know to learn more things
  • Ask the question of: "What is the cause of the cause" or what is the cause of the cause of the cause which is the cause of this effect? Basically, how do our goals change?
  • Dogma is rather boring and makes you want to change your mind
  • Dogma takes away child like curiosity
